Well done Yvonne! - Beatrix Meier, Winnipeg, Canada December 18, 2007 Press ReleaseFor Immediate ReleaseRelease No. TT1901_12/18/07 Author Yvonne Koslowsky introduces her children’s book about how Tommy the Turtle Teaches an Important Lesson Koslowsky’s first book, entitled Tommy the Turtle takes a Tumble is an illustrated story about a turtle named Tommy who is amused by the antics of other animals on his first day of gym class. The premise is that participation in physical activities at school has a positive impact on the student and is lot of fun too. Tommy the Turtle takes a Tumble is an excellent addition in the genre of young readers’ books. The story helps develop fluency for children aged 3 to 8 in a number of ways. The child reading this book will practice identifying letter names, make sounds associated with letters, blend letter sounds into words, read a string of words, spell familiar and new words, and develop the important skill of writing sentences. The book is unique in that it delivers a story with colorful characters and positive messages. These types of books should be selected to entertain young children. As Koslowsky says, "I believe that reading to a child early helps stimulate the mind and develops the imagination." As Konnie Hawkins, a third grade teacher in Northern California, says about Tommy the Turtle takes a Tumble, "Imaginative characters and fun for all. Kids will get into this."
